I actually don’t have very many rules for readers kind enough to share their thoughts with me here at The Hinky Meter. But the few I have, I feel strongly about so I will share them now.
1. Please try to keep your comments on-topic. Primarily because off-topic comments diminish the discussion that may be developing via others’ comments. If you have something you would like to bring up for which there is no thread it really fits, try going to my “Just for Chat” thread. If you have thoughts on cases you would like to have a thread to discuss, or areas of a particular case you think would be worthy of discussion, drop me a comment on the previously mentioned thread and we can discuss it. OR, email me at the contact email link.
2. Please don’t write posts that are aimed at conveying nothing but mean-spirited comments about a person (any person). I don’t care if it is the accused in a crime. I love a good zing at some one as much as the next person, I don’t mind calling it like I see it (or them like I see them), but try to get your zing in while conveying an intelligent thought that furthers the discussion of the topic.
3. No comments will be allowed that are derogatory toward another commenter, or ANY OTHER SITE on the internet. Doesn’t matter if the site is a discussion board, a blog, or a news network. I won’t be drawn into net-wars because of attacking comments of another site. If you have an opinion about a PARTICULAR thought of another commenter, or a piece of content on another site, feel free to share your opinion about that CONTENT. But it should be toward a specific piece of information, not some general comment like “Everything they say is stoopid!” I will delete comments that attack other sites or commenters. I have been active online since the 80′s…back when the “Ethernet” was reserved for universities and research facilities, and text-based BBS’s were all that was available…back when 9800 Baud was screaming. I understand the “digital ego” and can see baiting behavior and drama-whores from 10-gig away…I won’t be fooled by anyone attempting to pull this blog (or me personally) into that mess.
4. Please do not wish any one to hell here. I personally have never met or researched a single individual (that includes Ted Bundy, Adolf Hitler and a very abusive ex-husband) who I would wish to hell. It is a spiritual line I feel very uncomfortable seeing crossed. I will edit any such phrase out of your comment.
5. If you find fault, or strongly disagree with any of my work or opinions, please feel free to express your thoughts here. I would much rather read it here and be able to consider it, and discuss it with you so that I have the opportunity to grow from your input, than to be informed some one attacked my work behind my back in a place that I might not be able to offer a defense, or even read the derogatory comment myself. Please note, this does not mean you get to come here and PERSONALLY attack me. That’s equivalent to walking into my living room and attempting to drop a turd on my coffee table. I will treat you the same in this virtual world as I would in my own home. You will be escorted out.
6. The cases we discuss here at The Hinky Meter can evoke strong emotions of anger, a sense of wanting to take retaliation against the perpetrator(s), etc. No talk of torture, or voicing a desire for some systematic system of torture will be allowed on this board. This does not mean that if you want to express your personal feelings, such as “I’d like to choke the stuffing out of them”, or “I’d like to bitch-slap that person”, etc. that I will have any problem with that. But if you start waxing eloquent about detailed torture sessions you’re envisioning for that person…I’m most likely not going to allow your comment to stand intact, and will start sleeping with one eye open – looking straight at you.
7. If you make a comment that you know is in opposition to the opinion of the majority of the posters on the subject and lo and behold the majority of the posters on the topic disagree with you and voice their disagreement with logic and in a civil manner, that’s not called “attacking”, it’s not called “dissing”, and it’s not called “getting beat up”. It’s called statistics. Since statistics seem to be good enough to hold up the known universe through the Laws of Thermodynamics, I think we can rely on them working here. Don’t whine about being outnumbered in your opinion….especially if you already were before you shared it.
8. This is a blog in which articles are written about cases or topics related to criminal cases. Once the article is written a discussion ensues. That discussion can be presentation of further information and facts, opinion, theories or speculation. The only requirement I have is that all posters clearly state they are opining, theorizing or speculating, and if they are presenting a statement as fact, they give foundational support to it.
9. Concerning posts standards: Please do not use large font in your posts. If you want to emphasize a statement you can bold, italicize, color it, or all three, but don’t use big font. Do not place images in your posts unless they are relevant to the topic being discussed. No cartoons, flashy blingy happy-pants pictures, please.
10. If you see a comment that you feels violates these Rules, there are several ways to let me know privately about the comment: You can click the “report post” button which will send me a moderator report, you an pm me and let me know your concerns, or you can email me. Please DO NOT initiate a shit-storm on the thread by taking on the poster in public.

I have been a lurker now for over two years at websleuths and one year here.Firstly,let me just say thank you for all you and your members research!I would like to join in, but not sure if my browser will be acceptable.It wasn’t for websleuths. I look at your site every day for any updates. Only problem is now I’m finding myself torn up by so many other cases as well. Sometimes I feel what is the point in this as I can’t do anything for these poor children (and adult in the case of poor Eric).Then I think if this site does nothing else it brings together many people who could make a difference. More importantly it gives the victim a voice which unfortunately they no longer have. Even if I can’t comment, be assured I do follow your example and try to find ways to advocate change for the way we as a society treat our most precious gifts.

Val, thank you for being a beacon of light in this dark drama/farce. You illuminate with such clarity, and ability to analyze so many diverse aspects of this case. Your site must surely be devoured by the prosecution, and learned from. I am also sure all those on the duhfense side, gnash their teeth and curse bloggers… As well they should. I am in awe of how, nothing gets by bloggers. The analyses, the timelines, the LIES.
It was the “31 Days” that captured my attention. Then the unthinkable circumstances, the Antics of the Ants, the unabashed greed of all those that put the ” duh” in defense.
We can’t look away and we can’t wait for justice to be served to All, the self serving, bombastic blowhards and opportunists, who have attached themselves like leeches to this case . May they all reap what they have sown. May they get what they deserve. True Justice for Caylee will be Justice for all the scum who have tried to turn tragedy into Profit$$$.
I am so hoping that laws can be brought about, because of this case that will address, the egregious wrongs in our Judicial system. We have to protect children better with our child welfare services. So underfunded…we need LAWS! Wouldn’t it be a Tribute to Caylee, to do this in her name? Are their any laws pending that we could help enact? NLBs are a force to reckon with!
Be afraid, Casey, Cindy, George, Biass, Mason, and any one else who sought to profit from the atrocious murder of a helpless child ; NLBs are on your every move. Good luck with escaping our scrutiny..Not!

Thank you, Val. At the beginning of Caylee’s tragedy, my hubby & I used to read *everywhere* for both information & insight. We had never really been exposed to this type of horror before — the unthinkable act of filicide being vigorously defended by the victim’s closest relatives. Just taking a moment to thank you for your very intelligent observations & analysis’. And also for putting things in perspective … that’s probably the reason we come here daily … perspective. Your enlightening articles are great. Your rules are easy to follow.

Yikes!….understood!….I realize that you are very intense with your reckonings across the board….with one eye open!…I am guilty of a few rules you have exposed above that I should’ve heeded prior…I duly apologize for weighing one or two on your coffee table!…I promise to just read if you just keep on doing what you are doing. “Shit storm” .. speaking of which…
I believe I rushed into such a storm and began stirring the embers up about a week or so ago. Val, I believe you stamped the storm out by deleting my comment and I was very grateful once I cooled down. I went after that worm but missed the hook, thanks to you. It is true, if you leave the keyboard and fire up the old brain cells until they are just barely warm (much less hot) that everything looks very different in about 2 or 3 minutes. Thanks again for keeping me from embarrassing myself and I promise not to make work for you ever again!

Val, I just read your rules and I gotta say, the way you worded them is very welcoming.
I sure am glad I found the Hinky :) You really are a nice person Val. Of course this is my opinion, I don’t know it to be a fact! lol But I do wanna thank you for all of your hard work making this blog what it is. Just one quick question; In referencing “Rule” #2, does that mean, for example, I can’t call Baez an “Idiot” anymore?

It’s hard to not break rule #2. Basically try not to devote your whole post to the topic “Baez is an idiot”. Again, it’s hard…there is much leeway given.

I have read you rules and I appreaciate your wise judgement. While I have read a little at other sites, I do feel some posters get a little too immature. Although, sometimes I use humor and sacrasm (not violencr) as need to release some tension and stress, I will try hard to repect your wishes and rules.

Hello! Was part of the old Court TV boaed, but never posted on In Sessions, just peeked in sometimes. Don’t see how your rules could be any clearer, any fairer, or any more easy to comply with. I just might get up the nerve to post.
This is my first time to comment here. I recently found your wonderful blog while searching for more information on the background of the Casey Anthony case. I have been faithfully watching the trial. I confess that it sometimes keeps me up at night; I so hope and pray for justice for Caylee, and think Casey is truly a monster. I worry about a not guilty veerdict—(I guess ghosts of the OJ Simpson trial)….If for some inconceivable reason she is not found guilty on the most severe charge, I don’t think I would ever have faith or belief in justice again…
I think your blog is the BEST coverage of this I have seen—the voice of reason…
Hi I’m really glad to be on here, this site raises one fantastic point after another on the CA case, and to my delight I read that one of your regulars is blogging from the courtroom, the news that the jurors seemed appalled about Cindy’s “under oath testimony” yesterday was very reassuring. I dont want to come in under any false pretenses. I’m doing a book based on this case. Okay lol that was a lie, its billed as fiction but only the names have been changed, mainly to protect the innoncent (the writers :-D from lawsuits. There’s a saying I have, “its only fiction so tell me everything” and people do. This format allows the reader to go behind closed doors and eavesdrop on private conversations. Your fantastic board is a goldmine of well thought out observations and thank you so much for letting me come onboard.

Does ANYone else recall the ‘kidnapping’ searches on the Anthony computer and George saying ‘Zanny’ had been in the picture long before Caylee vanished? Add two plus two and it seems Casey was laying the groundwork for Caylee’s death long, long before she actually died. Sort of shoots a hole in the accidental death theory. And please tell Leonard Pedia (sp?) that someone is stealing his horse?

Would like to point out that you wrote that his wife filed the protective order on him, but the link you posted shows her as the defendant and him filing the order. I was wondering if you linked to the wrong order or if your facts are wrong. I have often seen one person deposed and the other file an order. Is this what occured after the tape actually revealed that she initiated physical contact at the courthouse? Did her protective order get turned down and then he filed one that was denied?
