Some of my favorite songs…

This has been a tough week here at The Hinky Meter.  Kay has lost her dear son Eric.  Shantell lost her mother.  We’ve learned of the discovery of little Sylar Newton’s body.  And Kyron’s family continues to live in the tormenting limbo of unknowing.  And we here some times feel we can do nothing but watch and just try to think of the right words to support or just let someone know we are here and thinking of them, praying for them…hoping for them.

In addition, I’m personally dealing with the end of my father’s life and the beginning of my first granddaughter’s (who insists on coming sooner than she’s supposed to).  So, I thought to myself, I want to hear the songs I heard when I was a child.  The gospels that were sang almost every Sunday in the small little church my parents took us to each Sunday morning to fellowship and praise God.  First, I’d like to share my favorite renditions of some that hold special meaning to me.  This first one is How Great Thou Art.  It was my grandpa’s favorite song.  I chose Carrie Underwood’s rendition because she sings closest to how it was sang when I was a child.

The next is In the Garden.  It was my grandma’s favorite song.  I chose Elvis Presley’s version because grandma particularly loved the way he sang it.

Amazing Grace was always one of my favorites when I was growing up.  I was torn between Nana Mouskouri’s version and Il Divo, so I include both.

And then some of my favorites that were not sang when I was a child, but I just love include Alison Krauss’ Down in the River to Pray.

MercyMe’s I can Only Imagine.

And Hallelujah, here performed by Espen Lind, Askil Holm, Alejandro Fuentes, and Kurt Nilsen.

And then I have to put in Carrie Underwood’s Jesus Take the Wheel…because right now, there are several us who will just have to let go.

Please share any others that you find uplifting.  We all need a little renewal some times with music.

Valhall.
