Kyron Horman case: Analyzing Terri’s story of June 4th

The following article is based on work performed by Hinky reader LuLu and her friend.  They timed out driving times between locations Terri Horman is reported to have said she went to on the morning of June 4th.

According to the reports of what Terri told investigators about her movements on June 4th, she moved along the following path.

Horman residence -> Skyline Elementary ->Albertson’s -> Fred Meyer’s -> 1-1/2 hours on rural roads in the area surrounding the Horman residence -> 24-Hour Fitness center -> Horman residence

Now, concerning the two grocery stores, we do not know if she went to Albertson’s first or Fred Myer’s first, but for the sake of analyzing driving times and whether the movements can “fit” into the time available between 8:45 a.m. and 1:21 p.m. (at which time Terri posted Kyron’s picture on her Facebook), it really doesn’t matter which order she went to the two grocery stores, as you will soon see.

Locations:

Horman residence:  15725 NW Sheltered Nook Road, Portland, OR

Skyline elementary:  11536 NW Skyline Blvd, Portland, OR

Albertson’s Hillsdale:  5415 SW Beaverton-Hillsdale Hwy

Fred Meyer’s  Sunset:  22085 NW Imbrie Drive, Hillsboro, OR

Drive Times:

Drive time from Horman residence to Skyline elementary:  6 minutes

Drive time from Skyline Elementary to Albertson’s Hillsdale:  28-33 minutes

Drive time from Albertson’s to Fred Meyer’s Sunset:  18 minutes

Drive time from Fred Meyer’s back to vicinity of Horman residence:  16 minutes

Drive time from near Horman residence to 24-Hour Fitness:  17-22 minutes

Terri’s reported story:

8:45 a.m. Terri states she leaves Skyline Elementary and then precedes to two stores:  Albertson’s and Fred Meyer’s.  We are assuming in that order, but reversing it doesn’t make much difference.

Note:  No diaper change time, no getting baby in and out of car seat time is added here.

8:45  to 9:13-9:18 a.m. – Terri drives to and arrives at Albertson’s

Note:  No shopping time, no grocery loading time, no diaper change time, no getting baby in and out of car seat time is added here.

9:13-9:18  to 9:31-9:36 a.m. – Terri drives to and arrives at Fred Meyer’s

Note:  No shopping time, no grocery loading time, no diaper change time, no getting baby in and out of car seat time is added here.

9:31-9:36 to 9:47-9:52 a.m. – Terri is back near Horman residence

Note:  “Chas” states he sees a white Ford F250 pickup pull out on to Hwy 30 headed south “somewhere north of Logie Trail Rd” at 9:45 a.m.

10:10 – 11:20 a.m. – Terri is reported to state she spent this time driving rural roads surrounding the Horman residence trying to soothe Kiara’s pain (either an earache or teething – depending on which version you want to go with)

Let’s break right here.  Okay, already the timeline doesn’t work.  Please note that just stacking the drive times as if Terri and Kiara never actually get out of the truck at either Albertson’s or Fred Myer’s, we have them arriving back near the Horman residence at 9:47 to 9:52 a.m.  That is a window of 18 to 23 minutes in which Terri can get Kiara out of the car seat, change her diaper if she needs to, unload all the groceries and other items she has just purchased at two stores, and load Kiara back in the car seat before she starts her alleged “soothing trek” at 10:10.  Now, while approximately 20 minutes is ample time to do all that, unfortunately, the rest of the timeline does not allow Terri to have ever even exited the truck at either grocery stores, let alone do the necessary actions with Kiara in and out of the carseat, go shopping, and load the groceries in the truck.

We have at most 23 minutes between the earliest time Terri could have arrived back at the Horman residence and the time she is reported to have started driving the rural areas.  With that 23 minutes we have to fit in:

  • Putting Kiara in the car seat at the elementary (if she was ever actually taken out)
  • Taking Kiara out of the car seat at Albertson’s
  • Shopping at Albertson’s
  • Loading groceries at Albertson’s
  • Putting Kiara back in the car seat at Albertson’s
  • Taking Kiara out of the car seat at Fred Meyer’s
  • Shopping at Fred Meyer’s
  • Loading groceries at Fred Meyer’s
  • Putting Kiara back in the car seat at Fred Meyer’s
  • Taking Kiara out of the car seat at home
  • Unloading groceries and putting them away
  • Putting Kiara back in the car seat before leaving home

Houston, we have a problem.  You can’t get there from here.  There is no way, with an 18 month in tow, you can shop two grocery stores, unload groceries at home and put them away and have it all done in 23 minutes.  In addition, one would think that by 10:00 a.m. you would need to get a diaper change in for Kiara.  AND, we have to add in that Kiara would be fussy, crying, etc….since that is the alleged reason for driving for almost an hour and half on rural roads, right?  AND, if you are at home, with a crying, cranky hurting baby why would you EVER leave your home to just drive roads.  Setting aside the logical move of contacting a pediatrician to get your hurting child looked at, you are at home…there’s no place more comforting, right?  And Terri had to go home because she just went grocery shopping at two stores!  She wouldn’t drive around for an hour and half with groceries in her truck – well, at least a normal person wouldn’t.

Back to the timeline…

NOTE:  Unless Terri left that morning with her gym bag, or got the gym bag before 10:10 when she was unloading her groceries (that she never had time to get in the first place), she would need to stop at the Horman residence before going to the gym to get her bag.  We will assume that is what she did.

11:20 to 11:37-11:42 a.m. – Terri is driving to and arrives at 24-Hour Fitness Center

11:40 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. – Terri is reported to have stated she was at 24-Hour Fitness Center

NOTE:  It has been reported that DeDe Spicher leaves her gardening work at 11:15 a.m. and is unreachable until she returns at around 1:00 p.m.

12:40 to 1:02 p.m. – Terri is driving to and arrives at Horman residence

1:21 p.m. – Terri posts pictures taken at Skyline that morning

So….based on the reports of what Terri was supposed to have told investigators about what she did when she left Skyline Elementary at 8:45 a.m., things don’t fit for the morning of June 4th.

Valhall.
