does the system, have a ceiling cap on allowable costs they will assist to cover defense costs. kind of what they are saying, the prosecution case gets stronger ,we need more money to deflect it. i guess i'm continiously amused how overwhelming evidense is disputed by a defense lawyer. i wish you were judge strickland's golf buddy ,little off the record talk would be interesting.

LindaPope,

You're right. It is all about the win. To the defense, it isn't about Casey's guilt or innocense nor that Caylee is dead. It's about upholding Casey's right to counsel, with no questions asked, and to win her an acquittal.

But you must keep in mind something Mason said, and that was that the State has endless resources and can call forth the very best of the best of everyone needed, from forensics experts to botonists. In this respect the State has the avantage, as well as it has, albeit circumstantial, its evidence that neither Mason nor any expert that he may call forth can refute. They can merely try to, and try to they will, and their effort will be most impressive.

Sometimes the defense will seem to be taking the lead, refuting many of the evidences the State presents, and at other times the State will mop up the floor with the defense. It's the way it goes, but in the end Caylee will still be dead and Casey will be the only accused, and the jury will follow the bread crumb path to a verdict of guilty. There is no option when you consider the evidence.

That Mason used the word "fun" to describe the upcoming trial really isn't so surprising. One of my sons is an auto mechanic. He owns his own shop. The work is dirty and hard and so oftentimes so frustrating that he threatens to sell or let his partner take over, but when it comes down to the nitty gritty he does it because it's what he "enjoys" doing, and so he does it -- though his mother would rather he were an infamous trumpetest.

If you asked him if he thought his dirty, smelly, difficult, frustrating job was fun, I'm certain he stare at you blankly for a moment or two and then grin, "Yeah. I guess so." And when he's been able to help some little old lady with her 30 year old car save a few bucks while getting it running well enough not to strand her, he's happy.

That's sort of how I look at Mason's comment. His interest isn't Caylee. Though he will use her. His sole purpose is Casey and the challenge of what she's done presents; and he will, quite well enjoy the challenge. But he won't win. He can't. And I'd have to write another three paragraphs on that.

Just try to remember every witness that either the State or defense will call will attest to one very important fact: Casey was the last person any one of them saw Caylee with, and the State can pretty much prove where Casey was at any given time, but the defense cannot prove where she wasn't, if that makes any sense to you at all.

Hang in there, for Caylee.

Finding justice for this little girl has been put on the back burner IMO. It’s all about the WIN for these high profile people Finding justice for this little girl has been put on the back burner IMO. Linda, it is definitely as you say, but keep in mind that defense lawyers are not about the victim. You probably won't see any empathy from them in this case.

CM has already shown that when he said "It's fun!" As I mentioned in a previous post (somewhere) how "fun" is he going to think it is when the SA shows the slideshow of that 34 month old's skull with three rows of duct tape deliberately affixed to the nose and mouth. Not fun!

I'm not sure it levels the playing field! The talent that is now on the side of the defense is breathtaking! I want this woman to be convicted more than I can express here. I guarantee she is spending her days planning her life after she is aquitted and how rich she is going to be. Mr. Mason is all about going into retirement "in a blaze". Finding justice for this little girl has been put on the back burner IMO. It's all about the WIN for these high profile people. I'm rambling this morning, but I'm scared for this prosecution.

Val said, :!:

Charisma is not limited to people with conscience.

****

Absolutely! And in fact, narcissists and sociopaths are quite (extraordinarily) charismatic! That is how they so easily "dupe" people, understand.

Good morning, Val.

I just couldn't resist. I also agree with Mason's addition to this being a good thing. It levels the playing field, and well it should. Casey can't be excluded from "We the people" when it comes to her Constitutional right to adequate counsel. Adequate and effective can be two different matter, entirely, however.

The only thing I find most disturbing about this is that not everyone who's so accused has the same opportunities that Casey has had, and by that I mean everything from the media exposure over what began as a missing child matter, right down to her cream of the crop defense team.

That she's young, attractive, and come from middle class America has awarded her certain priviledges that I don't believe she deserves any more than some Joe Schmo from the gutter who's fate rests in the hands of a very competent DP qualified public defender but who is over worked and underpaid as well as he has to stay within expense guidelines.

Mason is correct in so saying that the State has no limits on expenditures in prosecuting a case, though the Public Defender's office very well does, and so the system is off balance and those accused, and especially if they are wrongly accused, are oftentimes at the mercy of a defender's expense account, IMHO. That's my only beef anyway. And I just can't wait for the trial! This is going to be good!

hugs, lady. I hope all is going okay, for you and yours.
O, and Steve's lymphnodes are clean. Exhale and give thanks.
