Dr. Madhavi Martin is listed along with Dr. Vass and Dr. Wise as assisting in the analysis of air samples taken from Casey’s trunk. In particular, she assisted in the Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) analysis used in the testing. She is a Staff Research Scientist, Physicist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). Her Curriculum Vitae begins on page 24 of the air testing report. Dr. Madhavi holds a Ph.D. in Physics and has dual Masters degrees in Physics and Solid-State Physics.
Her listed honors include serving as co-editor on an issue of the Applied Optics journal featuring work on Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy. She has been awarded the Sir Frederick McMaster Fellowship by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) to “explore the development of rapid assessment tools for characterizing the chemical and mechanical properties of wood, wood products, and woody and herbaceous biomass for biofuels applications”. She has been appointed to the International Scientific Committee for the Laser-induced Breakdown Spectroscopy Society, and was awarded Strategic Environmental Research & Development Program (SERDP) Project of the Year for her work on a project for continuous monitoring of smoke stack emissions by Laser-Induced Plasma emission Spectroscopy (LIPS).
She is listed as an inventor on a patent entitled Dual Fiber Microprobe for Mapping Elemental Distributions in Biological Cells, and on two disclosures entitled Novel method for preparing and encapsulating radioactive material source forms and Ultra-performance Detector for Chemical, Biological Warfare Agents and for Homeland Defense.
She is listed as co-author on 34 publications, with the majority pertaining to LIBS analyses, and has been involved in 32 presentations at various scientific conferences.
